Description Music and poetry come powerfully together in this inspired collaboration by poet Sekou Sundiata and jazz composer Craig Harris. Part oratorio, part opera, part music theater, this new work blends song and spoken word, African American and West African rhythms, and European and Middle Eastern music. Udu explores the human dramas of African slavery with text adapted from the historic 18th century slave narrative The Interesting Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavas Vassa, the African, 1789, and a parallel story of a fictional present-day slave based on Samuel Cotton's book The Silent Terror.
