Description A breakthrough in the early career of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Elena’s Aria traded the mathematically structured movement of Fase and Rosas Danst Rosas for a series of movements based on everyday gestures carried out by five female dancers. Largely performed without music—apart from a few classic Romantic arias—the New York Times wrote that the performance was “amazingly effective in its embodiment of emotional malaise, especially the kind that women write about in confessional poetry.”
