Description Mabou Mines’ 1976 production of The Red Horse focused on an animate horse performed by three actors (JoAnne Akalitis, Ruth Maleczech, and David Warrilow). The horse works, moves, lives, improvises its history and psychology, and invents its whereabouts in a play that examines the process and procedure of the creative act. Written and directed by Lee Breuer, The Red Horse features a score for voice and percussion by Philip Glass.
