Tango: A Tribute to Astor Piazzolla

October 4 – 5, 1997

Country of Origin United States
Description For Argentinean-born/Bronx-raised composer, arranger and bandonéon virtuoso Astor Piazzolla, tango was always "for the ear rather than the feet." His intensely passionate tango-based ensemble works revolutionized worldwide perceptions of the Latin American art form and are largely responsible for the tango’s current renaissance.

For his tribute to Piazzolla, internationally renowned classical violinist Gidon Kremer has assembled a group of accomplished musicians modeled after the legendary quintet the composer himself used for his performances. Kremer offers bold and sensual interpretations of Piazzolla’s scores, where passion is heightened with dazzling flights of improvisation from the virtuoso violinist.

These performances in the intimate BAM Majestic Theater feature works from Kremer’s bestselling Nonesuch CD Hommage à Piazzolla and the just-released El Tango.
