Bill T. Jones is co-founder/artistic director/choreographer for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and artistic director at New York Live Arts. First at BAM in 1983 presenting Intuitive Motion with Max Roach playing live, The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company was born in 1982 out of an 11-year collaboration. They redefined the duet amplifying identity, form and social commentary forever changing the face of American dance. Many artists succeed by finding a niche and pursuing it with a single-minded focus. Bill T. Jones experiments in many forms and genres and has the rare ability to move between strongly voiced narratives, kinetic poetry, and pure entertainment. This company, more than once, has been in the crosshairs of profound, fractious social conversations: identity, race, sexual politics, rethinking history and the very place of art in a country still striving to earn its name as a modern democracy.
