Description In the first week of March 1971, BAM presented New Black Poets in America, a three-day festival that featured the work of poets working in the Black Arts Movement. The other two participating venues were the Apollo Theater and Newark’s Temple B’nai Abraham. Nikki Giovanni read her poems at BAM two years after her first book, Black Feeling Black Talk, was published. Giovanni appears on March 12th at the Apollo Theater as a part of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival where she will discuss her legacy in a tribute to her work as an educator, activist, and poet.
