Description What better way for BAM to mark the conclusion of the world-wide 250th anniversary celebration of Mozart's birth than with the radically re-conceptualized, internationally lauded opera Don Juan in Prague? Remixed as a digital media extravaganza by award-winning director David Chambers and starring the renowned avant-garde Moravian singer, actress, and violinist Iva Bittová as a passionate Donna Elvira, here is a Don Giovanni for the 21st century, as adventurous as it is reverential.
The production remains true to Mozart's music and to the superb libretto by da Ponte, telling the saga of a hapless Don ultimately condemned to hell for his unrepentant philandering. It takes on a resonant modernity through Matthew Suttor's arrangements and digital additions to the shimmering score along with the ingenious incorporation of graphics and video and still images by influential Czech photographers. Adding to the onstage luster—an appearance by the spirited Agon Orchestra of Prague.
