Description Handel and Ireland have a long history together: the composer often crossed the Irish Sea for a visit, and his Messiah had its world premiere in Dublin. This May, BAM presents Opera Theatre Company of Ireland in a dynamic produciton of Handel's thrilling and rarely-staged opera, Rodelinda. The company has been a vital part of the Emerald Isle's musical life since 1986 with a charge to challenge and inspire audiences rather than indulge popular tastes. BAM audiences will remember its warmly received US debut in 1997 with another glittering Handel rarity, Amadigi di Gaula.
"Helen Williams' Rodelinda is simply sensational...the prima donna in a company of near-equals...a new Handel star has emerged! This is truly one of Handel's greatest operas." -- Sunday Times (UK)
Sung in English with surtitles.
