Alternate Title Generation BAM / BAMfamily Performance: The Arabian Nights
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description Adapted from the ninth century collection of Indian, Persian, and Arabic folk tales known as The Book of 1001 Nights, Arabian Nights is a story about telling stoires. Scheherezade has married a king known for killing his wives. She attempts to save her own life by creating make-believe worlds to distract her husband enough to grant her another day among the living. Story after story unfolds to reveal another story lurking inside. Lookingglass Theater Company cuts a vigorous and entertaining path through this many-layered narrative to conjure a magic theatrical expereince with orignal music. Director Mary Zimmerman, whose Henry VIII was seen in Central Park this summer, developed this production specifically for the Lookingglass Theater Company and has revived it for the Generation BAM series.
