Production Language French
Country of Origin United States
Description For the second installment in his Cocteau Trilogy, Philip Glass eliminated the original soundtrack to Cocteau’s seminal 1946 film, La Belle et la Bête, and composed a new soundtrack which was performed in synch with the film during the 1994 Next Wave Festival. Of the film Glass has said, “La Belle is Cocteau's most complete statement about the entire creative process. The film is clearly an allegorical story. We can take it as a fairy tale, a love story, and as a representation of the major preoccupation of Cocteau's life... [I]t's an archetypal love story that goes right to the heart.”
