Description He was born Vander Clyde in Round Rock, Texas, Touring the world with his solo aerial act, performend "en travestie," he fascinated Jean Cocteau and all of Paris in the 1920s and 30s. Now "Barbette" is back in a haunting psychological tone poem created by that modern maestro of theatrical collage, John Kelly. Plying a multiplicity of forms -- choregoraphy, 16mm film, text and original vocal and instrumental music -- Kelly offers an impressionistic reconstruction of the parallel lives of Jean Cocteau and Barbette. The cast features Kelly, performing the roles of both Cocteau and Barbette, and New York City Ballet principal dancer Robert LaFosse.
