Zana Briski, a New York-based photographer, gave cameras to children living in the red-light district of Calcutta to capture their world through their eyes. It was an eye-opening experience that led the film to win the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary. The filmmakers went on to advocate for the children, helping them go to private schools, publishing a book of their photographs, and paving the way to a better life. Born into Brothels is a testimony to the transformative power of art and the ability to make a difference. In English and Bengali with English subtitles. Rated R.
