In-School Residency: AfricanDanceBeat and AfricanMusicBeat

Description Grades 3-12. In AfricanDanceBeat and AfricanMusicBeat, students learn about the history, geograophy, and culture of AFrica and the AFrican diaspora through through dance and music. Led by BAM teaching artists, the programs emphasize cultural connections, literacy in dance and music, and art with a focus on the visiting company to DanceAfrica. Program parcitipants attend a school-time DanceAfrica performance on May 23 or 24.
AfricanMusicBeat: Drumming and singing envliven the classroom as students learn traditional songs and perform African-inspired rhythms on indigenous and homemade instruments.
AfricanDanceBeat: Students learn African-inspired movement techniques and rhythmic expression, accompanied by live percussion.
Teachers are strongly urged to attend a Professional Development workshop on African music and dance at BAM to strengthen the effectiveness of the residency (date in March to be announced).
