Description Grades 8-12. In this exciting cross-cultural collaboration between choreographer Reggie Wilson's Brooklyn-based company Fist & Heel Performance Group and Andréya Ouamba's Compagnie 1er Temps from Dakar, Senegal, the artists draw from family roots in the Mississippi Delta and the Congo to ask profound questions about migration and identity.
Featuring an amalgam of African and African American music, movement, text, and vocals, The Good Dance explores the genealogy of culture to consider the influence -- real and metaphorical -- of Central African cutlure on world performance forms. Includes a pre-show preparation workshop for every class attending the performance, a teacher study guide, and a post-performance discussion.
