Alternate Title School-Time Screening / Discussion: Screening Activism: Freedom Riders With Commentators Stanley Nelson, Janet Braun-Reinitz, Laura Randall, and Francis Randall
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description This is the harrowing story of eight months that changed America forever. From May until December 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives -- may enduring savage beatings and imprisonment -- for simply traveling together on buses, in violation of Jim Crow laws, as they journeyed through the Deep South. The Freedom Riders' belief in nonviolent activism was sorely tested as mob violence and bitter racism greeted them along the way. Post screening discussion wit the director Stanley Nelson.
