Description The BAM Opera series was launched with a production of Verdi’s Falstaff performed by the Welsh National Opera. Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales, Diana Frances Spencer was the Gala guest of honor.
Verdi's triumphant final opera is a heady mixture of comedy and pathos, lusty debauchery and richly-deserved revenge. Shakespeare's knight of the paunch, Sir John Falstaff, sets out in adulterous pursuit of both Mrs. Alice Ford and Mrs. Meg Page. When the objects of his desire compare notes and discover Falstaff's duplicity, they plot to regenge themselves by making a fool of him. These performances mark the American debut of the Welsh National Opera and renowned German director Peter Stein.
