Alternate Title Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra and the Midwood High School Orchestra & Gospel Choir: A Classically Different Concert
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description Tonight's concert represents an expansion of the Brooklyn Philharmonic's In-School Performance and Instruction Program (ISPIP), which for nineteen years has sent professional musicians to public middle and high schools in Brooklyn and Nassau County. Each student takes part in two coaching sessions with professional musicians, two intensive orchestra rehearsals, and a final joint performance with students playing side-by-side with Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra members.
This sesason, with generous support from the New York Community Trust, ISPIP has been amplified to include classroom instruction, and the participation of students who are non-musicians. A theme concert -- Dvorak in America -- unifies our concert, and binds it to recent classroom activiities by 60 eleventh grade English and Social Studies students taught by Monica Agor and Margaret Gough. Oral presentations by some of these students will acoompany the musical selections you will hear.
