Description As part of our 125th Anniversary Season, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, America's oldest performing arts center, has set aside the month of March 1987 to pay tribute to the words and music of the remarkable George and Ira Gershwin, the creative masters who gave America a musical legacy that includes the opera Porgy and Bess, the brilliant Rhapsody in Blue, and such unforgettable show tunes as Fascinatin' Rhythm, Someone to Watch Over Me, Strike Up the Band, and Of Thee I Sing.

Our tribute to the Gershwins begins March 11th with a spectacular star-studded gala concert featuring artists from the world of music, theater, and dance, performing such Gershwin standards as Swanee, Nobody But You, I Got Rhthym, They Can't Take That Away from Me, Away from Me, Summertime, and They All Laughed, to name but a few.

Then from March 18-29 we proudly present the world premier concert presentation of the Pulitzer Prize winning musical, Of Thee I Sing, and its restored and reorchestrated sequel, Let 'Em Eat Cake. This combined concert will provide audiences with the first opportunity ever to hear, in one evening, all of the songs that George and Ira Gerswhin created for these shows.
