Historic Artist Designed Posters from BAM’s Collection
BAM has a rich legacy of fostering collaborations with contemporary visual artists on and off the stage. As early as 1956, Merce Cunningham and John Cage presented Nocturnes, featuring stage design and costumes by Robert Rauschenberg. Later, when launched the first Next Wave Festival in 1983, BAM worked with renowned artist Roy Lichtenstein to design the inaugural season poster. In subsequent years, BAM has continued to work with an array of important fine artists for our season and performance posters. This special collection features a selection of some of the earliest fine artist designed BAM posters, including: Frank Stella, Keith Haring, and Susan Rothenberg.
