The Brooklyn Philharmonia: Family Concert I

March 7, 1981

Country of Origin United States
Description As part of a program in the Brooklyn Philharmonia’s Family Series, the Chuck Davis Dance Company performed to Felix Mendelssohn’s “Overture to ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’” and William Grant Still’s “Danzas de Panama.” The latter piece achieves percussive effects from non-percussion instruments by instructing the players beat on their instruments, attaining an African-inspired sound.  An arrangement of "Capricious Harlem" by David Frost, as well as an arrangement of "Sioux Rabbit Song" by David Amram were also played.
