Description Part dream, part circus, part myth, Chimère s a production of unparalleled ambition. BAM presents the American premiere of France's thundering equestrian theater troupe, Zingaro, under the bigtop at Battery Park City.
Twenty-six horses and a band of Indian musicians will gallop and enchant for a limited twenty-one performance run. Bartabas, with his company of dancers and riders, conjures a hypnotic and mystical atmosphere inspired by the great Indian civilizations of the 16th century. Accompanied by the strains of traditional music of Rajasthan, the robed horsemen swirl about the ring, dashing in and out of darkness around a candlelit pool.
When Chimère premiered in France at the Avignon Festival, The New York Times reported that "the scene outside the box office recalled opera premieres at their most hysterical, with hundreds of people...literally begging for tickets." Don't miss the smash hit of New York's fall season.
