Description Blues and jazz initially functioned in the African American community as dance music, with oral traditions playing a crucial role in their develpment. Both art forms have stimulated much interaction between literature, music, and dance in the African American experience. This interaction forms the basis for presenting the works of novelist Terry McMillan, dancer Kim Bears, and vocalist Cynthia Scott on one stage.
