Alternate Title Mysteries and Smaller Pieces invented and performed by the Living Theatre Company
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description Originally created in 1964, Mysteries and Smaller Pieces was an exercise in collaboration, and what the Living Theatre called “non-fictional” acting. Synthesizing Artaud’s ideas on the theater of cruelty and Brecht’s alienation techniques, the ensemble goes through seven theatrical rituals based on breathing and group improvisation, before ending with an ecstatic flashdance of collective release.
