Description THE PHOTOGRAPHER/Far from the Truth, the multimedia stage piece directed by JoAnne Akalaitis of Mabou Mines, with music by Philip Glass, was the inaugural show of the first Next Wave Festival in the fall of 1983. Based on the life and work of 19th century photographer Eadweard Muybridge, THE PHOTOGRAPHER toyed with the tensions between Victorian era mores and photography’s radical objectivity. Originally commissioned for the Holland Festival in Amsterdam in 1982, staging and choreography for THE PHOTOGRAPHER was reworked for the Next Wave Festival performances.
