Merce Cunningham Dance Company

March 1 – 2, 1974

Country of Origin United States
Description This two-evening program consisted of two performances of what Cunningham called simply “Events Number 89 and 90.” Cunningham archivist David Vaughn writes that, “by definition, each ‘Event’ is unique.” Often based on the current Cunningham repertory, each “Event” is a sort of collage of choreography and music, the sequence and pairings of which was usually based on chance operations. The Cunningham company performed over 800 “Events” over the course of its history.
