Alternate Title Artists in Action: BAM Visual Arts Initiative
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description To borrow a phrase from Kirstin Jones and Andrew Ginzel, "After the end and before the beginning" could best describe BAM's new visual arts initiative: Artists in Action. What does it mean? In a reversal of roles, Artists in Action allows the visual artist to call the shots and create works-in-progress for the stage as part of the Next Wave Festival. The Queens Museum and Dia Center for the Arts will join with BAM to present the inaugural series.
To be honest, we're not sure exactly what to expect, but with titles like these, they've certainly got our attention. Imagine Ilya Kabakov's performance piece depicting a communal kitchen in Soviet Russia entitled The Flies: A Musical Phatasmagoria, or Vito Acconci's Theater Project for a Rock Band. Following each performance, the artists will engage the audience in a lively discussion about their work. In the interim, we'll leave you to ponder the end and wait for the beginning.
