red, black & GREEN: a blues

October 31 – November 4, 2012

Alternate Title red, black and GREEN: a blues
Premiere New York Premiere
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description My Show:
A performed documentary and poetic vision for sustainability and social change, preceded by an interactive visual arts exhibition surveying environmentalism across African America.
Sights and Sounds:
The audience will hear a dozen different African-American musical styles, taste summer fruit, respectfully touch the set and each other, smell heat rising, bear witness to an innovation in theater.

The ecological blues can find redemption in:
Alternative gardening practices, Van Jones, the intentional community design of Theaster Gates and Rick Lowe.

Most rewarding thing about performing:
The sense of transformation in the room, both slow and immediate. The access and opportunity to see oneself borne out in flesh-and-blood metaphor.

I want my art to:
Inspire. To raise the temperature in the room. To haunt and reflect. To stay present and look to the future.
