Alternate Title Elsewhere: A CelloOpera
Premiere New York Premiere
Production Language English
Country of Origin United States
Description My Show:
A surreal cello opera depicting a pair of women—an Henri Michaux heroine and the biblical figure of Lot's wife—bearing witness at the end of their worlds.
Sights and Sounds:
Lush, multilayered compositions by Eve Beglarian, Michael Gordon, and Missy Mazzoli, performed by me on acoustic/electric cello and electronics with singer/actress Helga Davis; four dancers moving in a dreamlike environment created by Robert Woodruff and his team.
Lot's Wife is:
A woman who dared to defy God's arbitrary, cruel command by refusing to turn her back on her city and people while they were being destroyed. A woman who chose to be compassionate.
Three pieces to listen to as the world is ending:
Schubert's String Quintet in C Major, D.956, Steve Reich's Tehillim, Jim Morrison's "The End."
During the apocalypse, I will be:
Covering my children with soft blankets. And flowers.
