Description Following sold-out performances last year, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to BAM with an extended run of twelve performances. Two new programs will showcase the Company’s passionate artistry and dynamic grace that have inspired audiences around the world for over five decades.

The center piece of the Ailey Spirit program is the staging of Alvin Ailey’s 1971 ballet Mary Lou’s Mass—performed for the first time in 35 years—to commemorate the centennial celebration of the birth of jazz pioneer Mary Lou Williams. The By Popular Demand program features favorite selections from the Company’s diverse repertory. The inspiring finale to both programs will be Alvin Ailey’s quintessential masterpiece, Revelations, a galvanizing tour de force celebrating African-American cultural heritage that ranks as one of modern dance’s most affecting and beloved works.
