Description Opening the Afro-Asian Festival, is the Classical Khmer Ballet of Cambodia. Until recently the company performed only in the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and was the personal property of the Royal Family, their origin going back 1400 years. The all-woman company, chosen when they were children, were rigidly trained to perform at sacred and secular ceremonies to induce favorable attitudes from the gods. The forty eight girls are accompanied by a traditional Cambodian orchestra.
