Description Robert Wilson designed and directed this adaptation by Wolfgang Wiens and Ann-Christin Rommen from the German dramatist Georg Büchner's canonical play. This work concerns the down-on-his-luck titular character who is driven to madness (and eventually murder) when he discovers that his wife had been cheating on him. Alice collaborators Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan again provided the Kurt Weill-inspired music and lyrics, which complemented Wilson’s German Expressionist design for the piece. Costuming and lighting for the show were also color-coded, matching the characters’ specific characteristics, as well as the emotional underpinnings of each section of the play.
