Description Pina Bausch's two-act Masurca Fogo, which means "Fiery Mazurka" in Portuguese and was created to celebrate Lisbon's Expo '98, became a highlight of BAM's 2001 Next Wave Festival. Alongside some of the festival's other dance offerings, the often strange, often witty array of little episodes in Masurca Fogo (set to some 18 musical selections heard on tape) stood as a cautionary reminder that no matter what they're called, dance works that fail to take fire as theater are of little consequence to their audiences.
