Description London's celebrated Almeida Theatre Company returns to BAM with two of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies, Richard II and Coriolanus. Stage and film actor Ralph Fiennes takes the title roles - partnered by Linus Roache as Bolingbroke and Aufidius - at the head of a distinguished company of actors directed by joint Almeida Artistic Director Jonathan Kent.
Richard II, Shakespeare's historical verse tragedy, traces the decline and fall of a young and willful ruler. As the first of Shakespeare's tragic heroes whose personal flaws brought about their downfall, Richard has a knack for making enemies, and brings about his political decline when he maliciously seizes the inheritance of his cousin, the exiled Henry Bolingbroke. A prequel to Shakespeare's Henry IV, the lyrical text was written in the flood of inspiration that also produced Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
