Description 1998’s DanceAfrica festival, themed “African Roots in American Soil: Male Rites of Passage,” featured IWISA, a dance ensemble based in Zimbabwe. Also presented was MASK Dance Company, which included dancers from the Ivory Coast. In its second year of partnering with DanceAfrica, the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation enabled 300 students to participate in a professionally-directed DanceAfrica program focusing on the visual arts and cultural history of several African countries.
