Description As part of its evolving new media initiative, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) will present Under score: Net Art, Sound and Essays from Australia, featuring a number of new media activities online at www.bam .org/underscore in conjunction with Next Wave Down Under, BAM's month -long celebration of Australian arts and culture, October 2- 30. In addition , BAM will present a new documentary for the web, Making Chunky Move, which can be viewed at Both projects will go live on October 2. Under score will feature the works of nine Australian a1iists, performers, and programmers, and two commissioned essays, with portals to some of the most innovative sonic experimentation in Australia and New Zealand, In addition to the net art, sound, and media offerings, Under score will include links to other works by Australian artists including CD-ROMs, installations, and video. Making Chunky Move, a web documentary about the innovative Australian dance company Chunky Move, will include virtual 3-D segments, sound bites, and extensive video footage . . . '

Although the net art works represented include a vast array of approaches , technologies, and applications, a majority of them focus on the human body as a site of theoretical speculation, dread, critique, and ecstasy. The works investigate the linkage between the biological and computational and the technological and the cultural, as well as sexuality . Other works in Under score use the Internet to explore alternative modes of producing, composing, distributing, and listening to sound.
