Alternative Jazz: The Next Wave

October 13 – 14, 1995, December 1 – 2, 1995

Country of Origin United States
Description Remember when jazz was alternative music? Don Byron wants you to know that the evolution of jazz did not stop with the death of the greats like John Coltrane and Charles Mingus. It's still alive and well and changing all the time. Though he's most recognized as that black guy who plays Jewish klezmer music, Byron is also a fearless jazz musician who actively seeks out the tricky and provocative. In Alternative Jazz:The Next Wave, Byron presents two weekends of music gathering together the country's best non-establishment jazz musicians, including Bill Frisell, Vernon Reid, Frank Lacy, Phil Haynes, Paul Bley, Jimmy Giuffre, Steve Swallow, and of course, the Don Byron Quintet.
