Description Unbound: A Book Launch Series with BAM and Greenlight Bookstore presents author Leslie Jamison on April 3 with the release of The Recovering: Intoxication and Its Aftermath. An exploration of addiction which upends our notion of the traditional recovery memoir, the book is a seamless blend of memoir, cultural history, literary criticism, and journalistic reportage. In addition to exploring her own experience, Jamison relates the stories of well-known writers who have struggled with addiction, as well as those of ordinary people trying to live their lives in sobriety. The Recovering also looks at the cultural history of addiction and how its story—shaped by race and class—has been told in 20th-century America. Jamison will discuss the book with Mitchell S. Jackson, author of The Residue Years.
