Description This Lyon-based dance company makes its American debut in a presention of À la vue d'un seul oeil (As Seen with One Eye). Fred Bendongué, artistic director of Compagnie Azanie, "...is very much a find...." states Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times. The story of the self-liberation of black slaves in the West Indeis and Brazil is told in a melange of experiemental music and modern dance consisting of traditional movement, capoeria, break dancing and more, refelecting the explosive new possibilities unleashed in the African Diaspora. Azanie is an ancient name for Africa.
