Alternate Title BAM Opera: Les Indes Galantes
Production Language French
Country of Origin France
Description Along with their performance of Rameau’s Castor et Pollux, Les Arts Florissants’ 1993 BAM presentation included a lavish production of Rameau’s lesser known opéra-ballet Les Indes Galantes. Written during the European era of colonial conquest, Rameau sought to imaginatively explore the universal themes of love and strife, across global settings. Props, costuming, and plot were intended suggest the allure of the exotic, with scenes taking place in the kingdom of Persia, in the US colonies, and in front of an erupting volcano.
