Alternate Title BAM Opera: Castor et Pollux
Production Language French
Country of Origin France
Description In 1993 Les Arts Florissants returned to BAM with a performance of Jean-Phillipe Rameau’s opera Castor et Pollux. The piece was first performed in 1737, four years after Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie stirred the Parisian opera pot, ousting Lully as the master of the genre. Over the centuries, Castor et Pollux has come to be seen Rameau’s signature piece, and a masterwork of Baroque opera.
