Description In his debut as an opera director Robert Lepage suffused the classic pairing of Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Schoenberg’s Erwartung with horror movie imagery, with media effects design that included images of severed limbs, phantom hands grabbing at frightened victims, and blood streaming from corpses. Performed only three months after his 1992 Next Wave one-man show, Needles and Opium, Bluebeard’s Castle/Erwartung was a milestone in the career of one of North America’s most versatile theater artists.
