Description Germany's acclaimed opera director Harry Kupfer and the lauded counter-tenor Jochen Kowalski make their American debuts with this powerful and deeply moving production of Orpheus und Eurydike. Gluck and Calzabigi based their famous opera on the Greek legend of Orpheus, who so loved Eurydike that he descended to Hades to reclaim her, only to lose her again when he ventured a forbidden look back at her on their ascent from the Underworld. Kupfer's production transposes the action to the present and creates, in the words on one London critic, "The greatest piece of theatre, let alone opera, to have arrived for many years."
Sung in German with English surtitles.
