Description "Comic drama" is the term Mozart used to describe his early opera La Finta Giardiniera (The Pretend Garden-Girl), a work noted for its unusual combination of comic and serious scenes. The story centers around the Marquise Violante and her estranged lover, Count Belfiore. A plot involving a falsified murder, mistaken identities, deception, jealousy, and fickleness unwinds as the Marquise, disgused as a gardener, seeks out -- and conquers -- her count.

The limited three-night engagement (performed in Italian) marks the American debut of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and the acclaimed design/directing team of Karl-Ernst and Ursel Herrmann.
