Description This intensive series of workshops focuses on how to approach Shakespeare's work in the classroom (grades 8-12). Michael LoMonico (Senior Consultant on National Education at the Folger Shakespeare Library, Stony Brook University professor, author of The Shakespeare Book of Lists and Shakespeare 101, and former high school teacher) leads this course along with BAM's teaching artists and guest workshop leaders. Participants will receive resource books and a ticket to see BAM's presention of The Merchant of Venice in May 2009 by the UK's all-male company Propeller. During the semester, participants examine Shakespeare's work through practical performance activities, historical context, and textual analysis. Teachers are also enoucraged to apply for Shakespeare Teaches Students. Preference will be given to teachers whose students are particpaing in the program.
