Description Grades 10-12. Developed especially for the film enthusaist, Young Film Critics (YFC) is a unique ten-session after-school program held at BAM in which high school students watch thought-provoking films, hone their analytical and writing skills, and engage in lively discussions with their peers.
Students enrolled in YFC will enjoy watching films in class as well as at BAM Rose Cinemas, Brooklyn's home for first-run and repertory films. Guided by a master teacher, students will improve their writing skills, as they write and revise film reviews, learning skills they can apply to their work at school and beyond.
In addition to the screenings and discussions, students meet with professional writers and artitsts. Former guests in this program have included A.O. Scott of The New York Times, David Denby of The New Yorker, and filmmakers Peter Sollett (Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist, Raising Victor Vargas), and Hilary Brougher (Stephanie Daley). An anthology of student essays and reviews is compiled and distrubuted at the end of the course.
