In-School Residency: AfricanDanceBeat and AfricanMusicBeat

Description In the AfricanDanceBeat and AfricanMusicBeat residencies, students have the exctiing experience of learning about the history, geography, and culture of Africa and the African Diaspora through dance and music.
The programs emhasize cultural connections, literacy in dance and music, and art-making with a focus on the culture of this year's DanceAfrica visiting company, Pamodzi Dance Troupe from Zambia. Students participating in the program will attend a performance by this company at BAM on May 26 or 27.
In AfricanDanceBeat, students participate in African-based movement techniques and rhythmic expression. Live percussion accompaniment is provided for each workshop.
In AfricanMusicBeat, the students learn to sing traditional African songs and perform rhythms on homemade and indigenous instruments.
Teachers are strongly urged to attend a professional development workshop on African music and dance at BAM to strengthen the effectiveness of the residency.
