Description BAMtalk examines the past, present, and future of black music in America from spirituals, vaudeville, and ragtime to blues, jazz, gospel, classical, R&B, rock, disco, funk, and hip-hop. Join a panel of critics, musicians, and scholars as they discuss the profound and pervasive impact these musical forms have had on American culture. BAMtalk also explores the issues surrounding this music and looks ahead at the emerging generation of musical innovators moving beyond established genres to create new sounds. Nelson George, noted cultural critic and author of numerous books, will moderate a panel including Greg Tate (Village Voice critic, author, and musical director of the ensemble Burnt Sugar), Larry Blumenfeld (critic and editor-at-large for Jazziz magazine), Vernon Reid (guitarist, composer and two-time Grammy winner), and other guests.
