The Armitage Ballet

November 18 – 21, 1987

Country of Origin United States
Description Hailed as a "postmodern firebrand of dance" and the "punk princess of the downtown scene," Karole Armitage has done more than any other choreographer to combine passionate theatrical dancing and formal ballet technique with the sounds and sights of avant-garde rock. For her first appearance in The Next Wave Festival, she is joined by famed visual artist David Salle in the creation of a full-length new work. The Elizabethan Phrasing of the Late Albert Ayler continues Ms. Armitage's exploration of a new style of American classicism, emphasizing articulation and expressiveness, and infused with contemporary feeling, psychology,  humor, and style.
