Description A setting of poems from the modernist American poet William Carlos William’s classic book of the same title, The Desert Music is a choral piece that explores man’s limited perception of his environment. Set to Steve Reich’s trademark brand of phasing rhythm, The Desert Music was one of the highlights of the 1984 Next Wave Festival. After enjoying its US Premiere at BAM, the Steve Reich Ensemble toured the piece in select cities around the US for nearly a year.
