Description Led by then-artistic director Dinizulu, the 1984 DanceAfrica festival brought work inspired by Caribbean, Nigerian, and Brazilian dance. Of particular note was the introduction into the DanceAfrica mix of Garth Fagan, who contributed choreography to the Bucket Dance Theatre’s offerings. The festival closed with an evening-length tribute to Chuck Davis, who is credited for planting the seeds for DanceAfrica in his 1977 appearance at BAM, and who later took over as artistic director of the festival.
